The
Maderia Tin Project
The Madeira Tin and Sewing Set is designed to feature the lovely
sampler fabric and tin from Moda’s Madeira collection by Blackbird Designs. Motifs inspired by the sampler fabric are
featured on the pinkeep/needlebook and biscornu. The scissors fob and ditty bag were originally designed to be sewn
from the strips in the jelly roll of fabric that was sold with the tin when the
fabric line was first released (a jelly roll will not be included in the tin for
this class). I will have scraps of my
jelly roll available if you would like to make these items. A sewing machine is best to make
these. There is a color photo of the
sampler that can be mounted in the window of the tin. Lakeside 32 count linen is supplied in the
kit as well as 3 colors of Gloriana silk floss and silk ribbon and the fabric to
line the tin and the accessories.
A design for a tote bag is included in the
instructions, but will not be covered in class.
You will need to purchase additional fabric from a quilt shop to make the
bag. (9 jelly roll strips (2 1/2” wide x
width of fabric), 1 yard of sampler fabric and 1 yard of your favorite print for
lining and handles, plus batting) To
make the bag you need machine sewing skills.

For this class,
you will bring a stitched piece ready to be finished.
You will need a front & a back with designs on both
sides or you can just backstitch the lines
on the back and date it. Here is a link for many
freebies or you can use any pattern you might have.
The
Floss Box
Just be certain that the size of the squares on
both pieces of fabric are exactly the same!! This
is very important! The backstitch outline around the design needs to be an even number of
stitches. Many designers use an odd number of stitches for the design,
resulting in an odd number of back stitches around it. Jane will send an
instruction sheet about how to figure any design (odd or even) and give it an
even number of backstitches when you register for the class.
Also needed in this
class are needles, scissors, a matching floss to
put your biscornu together and one or two buttons or
beads for the center. We will provide the stuffing/fiberfill
for your biscornu.

Here
are some of Jane's designs that you can purchase to
stitch for the class, or in a few weeks there will be
a free design (by Amy) that will fit the same template
as the designs shown here. OR you can have the
template to design your own!

pics above for larger images!
Also,
you can bring any stitched ornament you'd like to finish
in this manner. It does not have to be "banner"
shaped, you can do it round, square, etc and it can
be finished in the same way.
A kit with boards and batting will
be supplied and will include
enough materials to finish one ornament during class, plus a few more. Students will need to bring
their stitched piece, a piece of coordinating cotton backing fabric (like a
pretty quilt fabric) and several skeins of DMC floss in colors that go with
their design. You will also learn to make cording and tassels during the
class.
Cost
does NOT include pattern. Charts are $4 each (Christus Natus is $6.00)
and can be ordered from Jane when you register
for the class.
